Yes Franco Colapinto He imagined a good letter of introduction to his new MP Motorsport team at the start of the 2023 season formula 3 surely you will agree: scored in both races this weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix complex. There are always nuances to everything, but the Buenos Aires native sealed the first round knowing he could be thrilled with a car that finished fourth in the constructors’ championship last year.

Colapinto’s best, in light of the results, was Saturday’s sprint race. There the 19-year-old from Buenos Aires dominated for a good part of the competition, but had to settle for second place on the Sakhir circuit. He left in pole position (with reverse play system) and led the standings during the first 13 of the 19 total rounds of the competition.

The native of the city of Pilar was later overtaken by the Spaniards Joseph Maria Marti (Campos Racing), who ended up claiming victory. Third place was occupied by the Brazilian Caius Collet (Van Amersfoort), while the Swede of Bosnian origin Dino Beganović (Prema Racing) finished in fourth place.

For Sunday’s main race, 22 laps down, Colapinto had to start from twelfth position, with Gabriele Mini (Hitech GP) leading the grid.

And the Italian looked well on his way to victory, but a penalty and safety car ruined his chances for Gabriel Bortoleto to inherit victory in the first round of the season.

Colapinto struggled to find the pace, in fact he dropped to 15th position, but the end of the race came with a gift: despite finishing eleventh on track, a five-second penalty for Paul Aron allowed him to enter the Top Ten and score a point for the drivers championship.

F3 will return to Melbourne, Australia from 31 March to 2 April.
