“Today I want to take a moment to reflect on the past two weeks and share my story with you,” began Stroll, who was confirmed to be racing with just hours left in his first training session on Friday the 3rd.

In case Lance did not arrive in Bahrain, Aston Martin had already confirmed the reserve driver as the one to fill his seat, the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich.

“I fell on my bike while training in Spain on Saturday 18th February. The scans showed I had a fracture and dislocation in my right wrist, a fracture in my left wrist, a partial fracture in my left hand and finally another fracture in my hand. big toe of the right foot”, explained Stroll, in a text that was accompanied by a video in which he is seen in a cast, making kinesiology movements, chatting with his doctors, suffering the pain of such an injury but also smiling as its improvement progresses.

“With the start of the season just around the corner, the timing couldn’t have been worse. My medical team, at the start, believed that I would not only miss testing, but realistically the first few races as well,” recalled Lance, who at the start he pays dearly for the lack of pace (or nerves) and hits his teammate’s car.

And he continued, specifying the times of his pharaonic recovery: “48 hours after my accident, twelve days before the first race, Dr. Javier Mir successfully operated on my right wrist. After the surgery Dr Mir told me that he would return to the Jeddah circuit (next date 19th March) if he worked hard and was hopefully optimistic he could race in Bahrain but it was a long shot. Today I am convinced that the urgency that Dr. Mir showed me helped me get to Bahrain”.

“Progress has been slow – I needed a lot of help even with daily tasks at home,” Lance says in his Instagram post, which quickly went viral not just from Formula 1 fans, but across the sport as a whole.

Thus, the day that everything changed was when he was able to remove the cast and discovered that there was a possibility of being at the debut of the season. “Every day I got better and once the cast came off on day four, I felt like I could compete in Bahrain. My medical team came up with a program that would help restore the range of motion and strength in my wrists.” , has explained.

“Rehabilitation took hard work and persistence, but with an amazing medical team and the support of my friends and family, I was able to overcome the pain and get back on track in Bahrain with my team and fellow riders. ‘we did it!!!’ celebrated the Canadian, who hopes to deliver another strong performance in ten days, when the action returns to F1.
