The Brazilian star of Paris Saint-Germain neymar He underwent successful surgery on his right ankle this Friday in Doha after the injury he sustained on February 19 in the match against Lille in Ligue 1. Following the surgery, the player will have to undergo rehabilitation in the rest of the season, as reported on social media by the Parisian team.
“Neymar Jr had surgery this Friday at the end of the morning at the Aspetar hospital in Doha by doctors Peter D’Hooghe, James Calder and Rodrigo Lasmar -of the Brazilian Football Federation-. The surgery went very well.. The player will now respect a rest and treatment protocol” the Parisian club said in a statement.
PSG, owned by Qatari investment fund QSI, had previously indicated that Neymar would undergo “a ligament repair operation to avoid a greater risk of recurrence” in his right ankle, which has been injured several times. The 31-year-old Brazilian had already been treated in Aspetar in January 2019, after suffering an injury similar to the one he is currently suffering.
This Friday, after the operation, the player promised “Come Back Stronger” after rehab that will keep him off the land in between three and four months.
Brazil’s number 10 suffered a problem with the same joint in the first match of the World Cup in Qatar against Serbia and only managed to return to play for the verdeamarela in the round of 16 against South Korea.
Struck by the disappointment of the World Cup (Brazil’s elimination in the quarterfinals against Croatia on penalties), the Brazilian star had not shown the great performance shown in the first part of the season in recent games, but continued to be one of Paris SG’s main offensive arguments by Christophe Galtier with his 13 goals AND 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season.
Hampered by injuries, if not playing again this season, since joining PSG in 2017 on a record away game of 222 million euros ($235 million), Neymar will have played only the 49% of Ligue 1 matches (112 out of 228), a meager balance for the most expensive footballer in history.
