According to L’Equipe, Deschamps made the decision after speaking yesterday with Mbappé and the other candidate for the captaincy, Atlético de Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann will now be the second captain, replacing Manchester United centre-back Raphaël Varane, who also left the team after the World Cup in Qatar.

However, L’Equipe said Griezmann did not like DT’s decision at all and that the experienced player may be considering leaving the national team.

Mbappé will debut the bracelet next Friday, in France’s first Euro 2024 qualifying match at the Stade de France in Paris against the Netherlands.
