The bad news at Independiente seems to have a domino effect. When Fabiano Doman and the leaders thought about how to replace Leandro Stillitano Fired after directing just 8 games (of which he won just one, lost five and drew two), an unexpected bombshell fell on Rossoneri: a sentence from the Labor Court 2 of Avellaneda forces him to pay Gonzalo Verón more than two billion pesos. Exactly about 2,332,081,796.01, which is about five million dollars. After that bucket of cold water, the management made two decisions: first, challenge the measure and refer the case to the Supreme Court of the Province of Buenos Aires. Second: sue Hugo Moyano for fraudulent administration due to the legacy situation.
Gonzalo Verón joined Red from Red Bull New York under coach Hugo Moyano in January 2018. The footballer claimed a total of $6,149,689.63 from the club (including interest) for non-payment -between salary and compensation for his free exit from the North American entity-. Eventually, the courts ruled in his favor, so Doman asked the club’s lawyers to appeal to the Supreme Court.
This afternoon, Independiente spoke on its networks about the Verón case, repudiating the sentence of the Labor Court 2 of its city and targeting the outgoing leadership. “We want to emphasize that the current board of directors of the Club will carry out the relative judicial measures against those responsible of having caused this significant loss of Independiente’s assets, thus representing the members who want to see our Club standing again”, reads the end of the statement they published on their social networks.
As Clarín has learned, in addition to the conflict with Verón, the complaint against Moyano will be based on three axes: the OCA case, the operation of the aforementioned Verón and the sale of Nicolás Figal. Doman and company not only intend to sue the former president, but also the lawyers who have represented the club in these efforts.
As for the OCA case, “the club has requested a preliminary mediation with the aim of initiating a civil case to recover the money that the club has not received as sponsorship of the clothing,” reports Avellaneda.
Regarding the sale of the central defender who plays for Boca today, Independiente commented the following: “The club is working with a group of criminal lawyers together with the legal team of the institute to investigate how the collection of the sale of Nicolás Figal at MLS”.
In the midst of judicial disputes, the Reds will have Sunday an important match against Ciudad de Bolívar for the Copa Argentina. Pedro Monzón will sit on the bench and, after receiving several ‘no’s’ in the search for a new manager, a win could leave him well positioned to continue leading the team.
