Walter Gaitán, a former Boca player, was arrested in Mexico for gender-based violence

mexico police arrested this Thursday the former Boca player Walter Gaitán accused of physically and verbally assaulting his partner, in a case that took place in the state of Nuevo León, where the flyer lives.

The Secretary of Public Safety of the municipality of Guadalupe, which is part of the Monterrey metropolitan area, indicated that it received a call during the night to the emergency telephone number 911 for witnessing a case of family violence in a house in the neighborhood (district) Country La Silla.

The agents arrived at the house and arrested the former footballer, who was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor after being reported by his partner.

Earlier this year, “Divino” Gaitán, his nickname in Mexico, made headlines there for a viral video in which he was seen very deteriorated in a bowling alley.

Gaitán, born in La Rioja, had left Rosario Central, where he got off to a rousing start. He went to Villarreal, but returned to Argentina after a few months playing for Carlos Bianchi’s Boca. He was there between 2001 and 2002 where he won the Copa Libertadores.

However, his peak performance was in Mexico where he became an idol for the Tigres club (2002-2007). He was champion and goalscorer at the Apertura 2005 and won the Ballon d’Or as best player of the league at the Clausura 2006.

He also played for Necaxa and Veracruz in the Aztec lands. Gaitán also played for the Los Angeles Blues of the United States (2011) and Atlético Rafaela (2011-2012), where he hung up his boots. Since then, he has lived in Mexico.
