Boca have been crowned six times Libertadores champions and will start the tournament which unveils it with a complicated gift. A week ago Hugo Ibarra was fired from the technical direction, and was replaced by Herrón, who left the Reserve division, led the team against Barracas Central and achieved a 3-0 victory in the Professional League (LPF).

Although several names have been mentioned to succeed Ibarra, in a management entrusted exclusively to Riquelme, the good impression left by Herrón and the positive responses at Barracas Central from several players who were at a very low level meant that no there was a hurry to find the new coach.

Herrón will take charge in the Libertadores and also against Colón on Sunday for the domestic tournament, a role he held in the 2020 edition of the main club tournament in South America.

Boca shouldn’t be surprised by Monagas, who are assumed to be the weakest in the group, with Colo Colo as their main rivals to beat to progress through the stage and Pereira in second place.

Monagas, led by Jhonny Herrera, lost last Friday against Carabobo by a wide 3-0 in a match valid for the eighth date of the Venezuelan First Division (Futve) and has no scary hierarchies.
