Félix Auger-Aliassime wants to go to Estoril for his ATP 250 tournament. Quebecer ranked best among all participants. This is a priori a good chance to get a lot of points and maybe win a first ATP title on clay, but beware of pitfalls.

Austrian Dominic Thiem, former No. 3 in the world rankings, was eliminated on Tuesday in the first round of the ATP 250 clay tournament in Estoril.

He was defeated by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (58th in the world) in two sets of 6-3 and 7-6 in 1 h 46 min.

Long sidelined due to a right wrist injury, the winner of the 2020 United States Open, is now world No. 93, was sidelined from entering the Belgrade tournament last week.

He received an invitation from the organizers of the Estoril tournament.

Benjamin Bonzi will face American Sebastian Korda (37th) in the next round.

The winner of this match could face Félix Auger Aliassime, seeded No. 1 of the tournament, in the quarterfinals, if of course Quebecer manages to beat in its first match Spanish Carlos Taberner, 92nd in the world, from the qualifiers.

Auger-Aliassime is well aware of the strength of the Spaniards as this is their second duel in a week.

They met in the round of 32 of the Barcelona tournament on April 20, and Auger-Aliassime won three sets of 6-1, 3-6 and 6-4.

A smiling player raised both arms.

If Auger-Aliasssime can overcome this first hurdle, he will most likely face in the quarterfinals American Sebastian Korda no.37, the son of Petr Korda.

Quebecer beat him on the hard court in Acapulco in 2021 in two sets of 6-3 and 6-4. But in clay, what is the value of the American?
