Fabiano Doman is no longer the president of Independent. A little more than six months after being the leaders it has wrong-footed Hugo Moiano and company, the journalist and television presenter, amidst threats and cornered by the sporting and institutional crisis, stepped aside. As a replacement for him, on a temporary basis, he took over Nestore Grindettifirst vice president of the institution, mayor of Lanús -requested a 30-day leave- and pre-candidate for governor in Buenos Aires for Together for change.
The big question is knowing who will be the definitive replacement for Doman once the Extraordinary Assembly is convened in which the president who will complete the mandate will be defined.
What does the club bylaws say? “The Vice President temporarily exercises the functions which, pursuant to the previous article, are due to the President, in cases of temporary absence, leave, illness or other impediment not exceeding 90 days. In the event of death, resignation or resignation for a period exceeding 90 days, the Assembly of Representatives will designate their replacement from among the members of the Board of Directors who meet the requirements referred to in article 78”..
Who meets the requirements of Article 78? All members of the current Board of Directors. Substitutes, account auditors or partner representatives cannot aspire to the highest position. For example, the deputy and also pre-candidate for governor of Buenos Aires for Together for Change, Christian Ritondoone of the holders of the coalition that brought Doman to power, he is not in a legal position to take over the reins of the club.
In short, these are the people who make up the board of directors and who can be elected by extraordinary assembly to become the next president of Independiente.
Nestore Grindetti
Born in Lanús 68 years ago, he is the provisional president of Independiente following the departure of Doman. An actuary by profession, he is one of the founding members of PRO and has been alongside Mauricio Macri since his days at SOCMA, where he entered as a cadet and ended up as a member of the board of directors. Subsequently, already engaged in the arena of politics, he was finance minister of the government of the city of Buenos Aires and since 2015 he has been mayor of Lanús, where he preceded Darío Díaz Pérez and is now in his second term. He also intends to run for governor of the province of Buenos Aires in the next elections.
Good management during his time at Independiente can be an interesting electoral platform to dream of being the strongman of the largest constituency in Argentina. For now he has moved fast to hire an experienced manager in Ricardo Zielinski and we will have to wait and see if he can get the money the club needs to get on track the debts and lawsuits that have Doman on the corner.
John Marconi
Second vice president of the formula led by Doman, he is a 35-year-old television host who had a screen on ESPN and Canale 13. He is also the son of the former referee Guillermo Marconi, current head of SADRA, one of the two corporations that bring together the judges of the Argentine football. At one point he considered running for president, but eventually joined the coalition that was formed to oust the Moyanos from power in the Avellaneda club. He threatened to resign in the first months of the Doman administration, but now seems committed to accompanying the transition. “Based on the statute, we are talking that Grindetti will be president for 90 days. After that period, we have to see what happens. Today the president is Néstor, so we will continue working until it is and it could be more if it is an option” , counted in the last few hours.
daniel seoan
General secretary of the club -an important position, since his signature is essential for any decision-, Daniel Seoane is a building contractor who is part of the “Champagne” group, made up of several leaders with political and territorial weight in the Avellaneda club. They accompanied Hugo Moyano in his first term in Avellaneda, but little by little they drifted apart and turned into opposition.
