Economy Minister Sergio Massa and AFA President Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia announced on Monday that they had presented guarantees for Argentina to host the next Under-20 World Cup, which will take place from May 20 to June 11th.
Massa and Tapia hosted the event from 12 at the Ministry of Economy in the company of the board of directors of the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) and the minister of sport and tourism, Matías Lammens.
The head of the economic portfolio also said that Argentina has the necessary funding to be able to carry out the ecumenical tournament, after the International Federation of Associated Football (FIFA) withdrew Indonesia’s candidacy, because that country does not recognize Israel as a state sovereign and opposed that nation’s participation in the contest.
Tapia is accompanied by the leaders of the AFA, Rodolfo D’Onofrio (River Plate), David Garzón (Huracán), Marcelo Achile (Defenders of Belgrano), Guillermo Raed (Mitre de Santiago del Estero) and the general secretary, Víctor Blanco Rodríguez ( Racing Club), among others.
“We have managed to complete all the administrative documentation requested by FIFA so that we can host, organize in our country and, above all, be able to respect and develop this youth team project that we have,” said the president of the AFA. .
Tapia said the Under-20 World Cup will also serve to strengthen all the young players who have played in Europe and who were taken into consideration by Lionel Scaloni during the last call-up for the senior national team’s friendlies in Argentina.
“FIFA members were able to visit not only the stadiums where they will play and venues, but also the retreats of the institutions so that the teams can train, which demonstrates the commitment, development and investment made by the leaders of football so that boys and girls can play in the best conditions they have today,” he added.
The top manager of Argentine football also thanked the support of the Government, through the figure of the ministers of Transport and the Economy for having supported the idea of holding the youth world cup in the country.
