Houston Dash coach and general manager James Clarkson was suspended by the team Tuesday in response to the preliminary results of an investigation by the NWSL and the Players’ Association launched last year to review past and current complaints of discrimination, harassment. and abuse.
The team said a final decision will be made once the full outcome of the investigation is known. In the meantime, a temporary coach will be assigned.
The NWSL was rocked last fall by a series of press questions and speeches from league players. Coach Paul Riley was fired over allegations of sexual coercion against female players. Following this, league commissioner Lisa Baird resigned from her handling of the case.
The league reached an agreement in October with the League’s Players ’Association to address requests made after allegations of abuse and harassment rocked the league.
A total of five coaches left their positions last year in the NWSL, in connection with allegations of abuse and evidence that the league ignored those allegations.
