The first U23 Softball World Cup is taking place in Argentina. The competition, to be more precise, is based in Paraná and the Nafaldo Cargnel stadium and the El Plumazo diamond are the stadiums that host the tournament until April 23rd.
It won’t be the first time the city has hosted a Softball World Cup. The first time was in 2012 when the 2012 World Junior Men’s Softball Championship was played. On that occasion, Argentina was crowned the champion.
The Argentine national team, who shared a group with Australia, the Czech Republic, Mexico, South Africa and Singapore, finished in third place and advanced to the Super Round having posted three wins and suffered two losses.
The path will continue this Thursday when they face Canada. They will then face New Zealand on Friday and Japan on Saturday. In this way, and after finishing this instance, the qualifications for the final and the duel for third place will be defined.
However, and beyond the performance and the road that the Argentine national team will have to travel, a quite spectacular situation has been brought forward by New Zealand. It turns out that the Oceania team faced Australia and performed a Haka.
Just as in rugby where this ritual performed by the All-Blacks is iconic, the New Zealand softball team performed their own and captured the attention of all the spectators in attendance waiting to watch the match.
