For just over a week, the technical director of Paris Saint-Germain, Christopher Galtier, is questioned by the French media. Unlike other occasions, it is not because of the football level that the Parisian team maintains, but because of the accusations that classify it as racist after an email sent by the former Nice manager was leaked Julien Fournier to said clubwhere he claimed that Galtier tried “blacks” to the players he coached during his time with the South of France team. Following the allegations received, the French coach reporters denounced that spread the particular situation.
“He went to a restaurant (Galtier) and everyone jumped on him, ensuring that the team was full of blacks,” reveals part of the text sent by RMC Sport reporter Julien Fournier at the club. According to the email sent by the former Nice coach to the club authorities, Galtier would have commented that “he must have realized that the team did not match the city nor with what people asked for” and that there could not be “many blacks and Muslims within the team“.
After Fournier’s statements, and the accusation of his colleague Romain Molina, the international press echoed the statements he allegedly made in 2021 when he managed Nice in France.
Nine days after that accusation, the French coach who has led PSG since July 2022 sued journalists for defamation Daniel Riolo (RMC Sport) e Romain Molina (independent), and former director of football of Nice Julien Fournier. “We want this unacceptable situation to stop.”, expressed Oliver Martinhis lawyer.
According to the AFP news agency, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed receipt of a complaint by Galtier against the internet hate for death threats received. Starting this Friday, the Prosecutor’s Office will have three months to open the proceedings for these complaints.
The situation told by Fournier that compromises Galtier
“Christophe Galtier then walked into my office and greeted his son, who said ‘you can check with my father what I told you’ (Galtier’s son is a player agent and had also spoken with Fournier to comment on the coach’s words): once his agent/son left, I told Galtier about the conversation I had just had and asked him if it was true, he replied yes and that he had to take into account the existing reality in the city, and in fact we couldn’t have so many blacks and muslims in the team“.
“He went to a restaurant (Galtier) and everyone jumped on him, ensuring the team was full of blacks.” Furthermore, Galtier reportedly commented that he “had to realize that the team didn’t fit the city or what the people were asking for.”
However, this was not the only accusation that Fournier made against the DT who leads Kylian Mbappé, but at the end of last year he also pointed against Galtier when speaking of the reasons why the coach ended up leaving Nice: “If I explain the real reasons which we argue about, because that’s really the word, Christophe Galtier he will no longer enter a dressing room, neither in France nor in Europe (…) It was indirectly connected to football. Those are things that touch me deeply.”
