Alexander Zverev was beaten in Munich by an 18 -year -old Dane

Holger Rune won straight sets 6-3, 6-2 with 1:39 left on Wednesday.

Rune quickly broke to take the lead by 3 games to 0. At 5-3, after wasting four set points on so many unforced errors and a fifth saved by Zverev, the 18-year-old Dane pocketed the first set 6- 3 in the sixth , from a winning end.

On his journey, Rune took Zverev’s serve at the start of the second set to take a 2-0 lead and even take some 3-0 balls. He took his opponent’s serve for the second time in this set, to lead 5-1 and eventually beat world No. 3 6-3 and 6-2, which surprised everyone.

Zverev, obviously disappointed, inevitably ruined his opponent’s effort that day.

This is my worst game in the last five, six, seven years, Zverev commented after the game. He was a great player, but I have lost against anyone now.

On his own admission, Rune didn’t expect to push himself so easily.

I have a lot of respect for him, and I obviously don’t expect to win two sets, with that score.he commented after his victory against the double winner of the tournament (2017, 2018).

Winning for the first time in his career as a top 10 player on the eve of his 19th birthday, Rune will face Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori (63rd in the world rankings) in the quarter-finals.

In the afternoon, defending champion Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (20th in the world), eliminated Belarusian Iliya Ivashka (44th) in three sets of 3-6, 6-2 and 6-4 in just of two hours.

He will face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (38th), the recent quarter-finalist at Indian Wells and Miami, who qualified by going out in two sets 6-2, 6-4 to German Daniel Altmaier.

In Estoril, while waiting on Thursday for the first match of Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime, favorite of the ATP 250 tournament, American Frances Tiafoe (no 5) defeated Portuguese Nuno Borges in three sets of 7-6 (7/4), 4 -6 and 6-0.

After going directly into the second round, Auger-Aliassime will face Thursday for his entry into the run with Spanish qualifier Carlos Taberner, No. 1. 92 in the world ranking.
