What happened was that, false news began to circulate among internet users that the journalist had said that the Brazilian Championship would be paralyzed due to the large number of controversies involving several athletes from various teams. Some users of social networks were deceived by the wrong information and ended up sharing that Marcelo Barreto would have stated during his program that 120 players would be involved in the Maximum Penalty Operation, which is investigating manipulations in the results of soccer games, in addition to athletes who would take cards on purpose, in exchange for money, and because of that, the Brasileirão would be interrupted.

So, to explain himself, the presenter, who does not have any social network, recorded a video that was shown on SporTV and on the Globo Esporte website, in which he clarifies the fake news. Marcelo denies that he received such information and that he would never have received this information and that he never said anything about the interruption of the championship.

“Hello, people from dear social networks, this place that is useless not to be, right, because they reach you. This is Marcelo Barreto, presenter of SporTV. I just got home from hosting the show and got a barrage of messages about something I haven’t talked about. I do not have any information on the number of players involved and yet to be disclosed in the betting scandal.”began the presenter.

“I have no information about the stoppage of the Brazilian Championship. And what is being passed on in your WhatsApp group is false. I don’t know who invented it. Interestingly, on today’s show I said: ‘Breathe, before you go over something. Look for the source’. The entirety of the program is on Globoplay and does not have this information that is being released”continued Marcelo.

Finally, the journalist also asks Internet users for help so that fake news is no longer passed on by social networks. Marcelo Barreto accused some journalists of republishing false information without first checking the veracity of the news, which would have increased the problem.
