The player Ana Paulo Borgo had been fighting a tumor in her stomach since September last year

Paula Borgo, the former player of the Brazilian national volleyball team, died at the age of 29 from stomach cancer. She discovered the tumor in September last year, when she had to step away from the courts.

The death announcement was made by the athlete’s mother, Debora Borgothrough social networks this Thursday, 11. “Jesus picked up my daughter. What a pain, my daughter”lamented the mother of the opposite in Instagram Stories.

Paula was diagnosed with the tumor during the medical examinations carried out in Barueri’s pre-season, the team that she would defend in the last Superliga. Before, she was in Italy, defending Bergamo.

The athlete also defended the Brazilian national team. In 2019, the player secured the silver medal in the League of Nations, and was with the team that won the Pre-Olympics for the Tokyo Games. In the base categories, she was under-23 world champion.

The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) released a note lamenting the passing of the player on social networks. “The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) expresses its deep regret for the death of player Ana Paula Borgo, aged 29. She was a great talent in national volleyball and defended the Brazilian team in important competitions such as the League of Nations and the Pan American Games. Ana Paula Borgo participated in winning the Under-23 World Cup, in Turkey, and defended Brazil in the youth teams. For the clubs, she represented great teams like Praia Clube, Osasco, Pinheiros and Fluminense and played abroad in countries like Turkey and Italy. In this very difficult time, CBV is in solidarity with the family and friends of Ana Paula Borgo”says the daughter-in-law.
