Argentina Sub 20 World Cup 2023: the 4 stadiums that will host the World Youth Championships

After the approval of FifaTHE AFA announced a few weeks ago the venues of the Sub 20 World Cupwhich will be played in Argentina between May 20 and June 11, it will be meanness with its Malvinas Argentinas stadium, Saint John with the Bicentenary Stadium, the silver with Diego Maradona and Santiago de Abroad with the One Mother of Cities.

The tournament will be played by 24 countries divided into six groups and both the opening match and the debut of the Selection led by Javier Mascherano will be against Uzbekistan, Saturday 20th at 6pmat the Mother of Cities stadium in Santiago del Estero.

The Argentine Under 20 concluded their first training session this Saturday with the entire squad called up by coach Javier Mascherano to face the World Cup in their category, which will start next Saturday and where they will share the group with Uzbekistan, Guatemala and New Zealand.

The last player to show up for the concentration camp was Matías Soulé, who arrived in Buenos Aires after playing for Juventus in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Sevilla.

The Albiceleste team met this Saturday in the property of Lionel Andrés Messi in the city of Ezeiza in Buenos Aires to carry out training sessions led by Pablo Blanco and under the watchful eye of Mascherano. The team will play its second preparation match for the World Cup this Monday.

They beat the Dominican Republic 4-0 on Thursday with braces from Juan Gauto and goals from Valentín Carboni and Ignacio Maestro Puch.

Sub 20 World Cup: the four venues and stadiums

Below are the four venues where the tournament will take place, remembering that the opening day will be in Santiago del Estero, with Argentina as the protagonist, and both the semi-final and the final will be played in La Plata.

Sub 20 World Cup Venues: Mendoza

It is located at the foot of the Cerro de la Gloria, near the center of the capital, and has a capacity of approximately 42,500 spectators. Construction started in 1976, before the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.

Since then it has hosted various sporting events, including the Under 20 World Cup held in our country in 2001. In 2011, on the occasion of the Copa América in Argentina, the Malvinas Argentinas underwent a major internal restructuring.

Venue of the Sub 20 World Cup: San Juan

It is a multipurpose stadium located south of Greater San Juan, which has a capacity of 25,286 spectators. After two years of work, the venue was inaugurated on March 16, 2011, with a match between Argentina and Venezuela (4-1).

A few months later it was one of the venues for the Copa América, although it did not host the national team on that occasion. It had several spares, most recently in November 2021 to meet FIFA and Conmebol standards for international matches.

Venues of the Sub 20 World Cup: La Plata

Known as Estadio Único de La Plata or Diego Maradona, this sports venue is located in the provincial capital of Buenos Aires and has space for 53,000 participants. Inaugurated in 2003, it is one of the most modern stadiums in Latin America.

It hosted the 2011 Copa América, among other sporting and cultural events. On December 18, 2020, it changed its name following the death of the idol.

Venue of the Sub 20 World Cup: Santiago del Estero

The stadium that hosted the friendly match between the World Cup winners in Qatar and Curaçao at the end of March is just two years old. With a singular cylindrical structure, begun in June 2018, the Madre de Ciudades is located on a property located on the northern seafront of the capital, on the banks of the Dulce river.

The land is surrounded by the motorway bridge, the botanical garden and is connected to the development train through a station. It has a capacity of 29,000 seated spectators.
