Sala passed away on 21 January 2019 at the age of 28 while traveling by plane from Nantes to Cardiff, to introduce himself to his new club following the move. The plane crashed in the English Channel and was found 13 days later near the island of Guernsey.

The patron of Cardiff, a Malaysian named Vincent Tan, assured that with the sale of Salas his team could have saved themselves from defeat in the category: “Emiliano could have scored the few goals we were missing to save us from relegation”.

The manager understands that this situation has caused him to lose 100 million pounds. And that Nantes has damaged his reputation since he made him pass for “a bad payer” for which he asks for two million euros more.

Before the CAS ruled against the Welsh club, Tan had assured that he would initiate legal action if the fine was not in his favour, he would initiate legal action: “FC Nantes must be punished. If the decision of the Federal Court is not in our favor, we will report them immediately. ” And he complied.
