Sub 20 World Cup Argentina 2023: all the figures and promises of the youth tournament in the country

Argentina is preparing to receive from next Saturday the Sub 20 worlda tournament that has always been the platform for important figures in football history and the edition to be held in our country after 22 years will have a talented group who promise to continue with the tradition.

The last youth category of the tournaments organized by FIFA has always been a showcase of great numbers since the arrival of Diego Maradona in Japan in 1979passing through the presence of Lionel Messi in Holland 2005 and until the appearance of Norwegian Erling Haaland, creator of the latest edition in Poland 2019with nine goals in one game (12-0 against Honduras).

From Saturday 20 May to 11 June, the stadiums of Santiago del Estero, San Juan, Mendoza and La Plata will witness the stars that will shine in the near future of world football.

The tournament will see the participation of 24 selected teams that will be divided into six groups of four. The top two of each and the four best third-place finishers will advance to the finals which concludes on 11 June with the last day at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in the capital Buenos Aires.

But the big question in this type of tournament is who to watch on each team. Subsequently, an X-ray with the cracks that each team brings to our country’s “Mundialito”.

Group A

The national team, led by Javier Mascheranohe is the top seed in group A which he will share with Uzbekistan, Guatemala and New Zealand.

Uzbekistan is the last champion of Asia and its main figure is Umarali Rakhmonaliev, the only player who plays outside the country and plays for Rubin Kazan, from Russia; Arquimidez Ordonez stands out in Guatemala and is one of the few who managed to make the leap to MLS in the United States; and New Zealand has its main promise in Jay Herdman, son of the Canadian national team coach.

Group B

It is made up of Ecuador, the United States, Slovakia and Fiji, we will have to be careful in the matches of the South American team.

In the “tri” there will be one of the two players from the 2007 category included in the list and it will be midfielder Kendry Páez. The Independiente del Valle player stood out in the South American Under-17 team and has already anticipated his arrival at Chelsea.

Group C

Colombia, Japan, Senegal and Israel play. It is one of the most balanced and in all games there will be talent to keep an eye on Gustavo Puerta Colombian, which plays in the German second division; the Japanese Taichi Fukui, of Bayern Munich; the Israeli Tay Abed, of the Dutch PSV; and Senegalese winger Samba Diallo.

D group

Brazil and Italy will sparkle in group D complemented by Nigeria and the Dominican Republic.

The South American champion relies on Andrey Santos, armored by Chelsea, and Matheus Martins after the weight loss of Endrick and Vitor Roque.

Simone Pafundi is Italy’s great bet and has also already participated in training sessions with the older one led by Roberto Mancini.

The Nigerian Victor Eletu appears in the Milan youth team and the Dominican Derek Cuevas dreams of moving to the Barcelona first team.

E group

This area will also have two attractive teams, England and Uruguay, who will surely battle for first place with Tunisia and Iraq.

Carney Chukwuemeka and Liam Delap lead the team of the European champion and Franco González is the hope of “charrúa” football.

F group

France leads this area and will challenge South Korea, Honduras and Gambia with the offensive power of Malamine Efekele, the young Monegasque compared to Kylian Mbappé.

In 2001, the last time Argentina hosted the World Cup in this category, a certain Javier Saviola was the figure of champion of the tournament and team goalscorer and was immediately sold to Barcelona Who will be the star of the 2023 World Cup?
