The match between Racing and Vélez, which should have been played this Friday evening at the Cilindro de Avellaneda, has been suspended by the Professional League due to the death of Hernán Palito Manrique, DT of the Liniers Club Reserve. There will be a minute of silence in all matches on the date to commemorate those who as a footballer defended the colors of All Boys, Nueva Chicago and Belgrano de Córdoba, among other teams.
It has not yet been decided when the match just postponed will be played. One possibility is that it will be played next June, taking advantage of the break due to the Fifa date in which the Argentine national team is planning an international tour.
“The Professional Soccer League, the AFA and the Racing Club express their solidarity with Vélez for the death of Hernán Manrique, and given the shock that the decompensation of the same occurred in the Olympic Village of the Liniers club, it is postponed, with a date define, the party between both”.
“Life is ahead of football”
Vélez coach Christian Bassedas thanked the willingness of the Racing management to suspend the match that both teams had planned to play at night at the Cilindro de Avellaneda.
“Life is ahead of a football match. You have to spend the day sad and continue tomorrow. Today we are injured, Hernán was a teacher, a coach, a father for football players. He taught and corrected well, he had passion,” he recalled excitedly in an interview with TyC Sports.
“I’m very sad, I think of Hernán’s wife and their three children, also for what he gave to these kids who play in the first division today. It was a beautiful moment in his career. It’s terrible to have to accept when someone like this leaves dear: Hernán is part of the Vélez family, we are very hurt and sad,” he distinguished.
The Liniers entity has decided to suspend the amateur football matches against Talleres de Córdoba, scheduled for tomorrow; also the children’s soccer activity on Sunday and the women’s soccer matches that would take place tomorrow at the Villa Olímpica.
After hearing the news, the Avellaneda club expressed the reasons for the suspension and its solidarity with Vélez on social media. “Racing accompanies the request and is in solidarity with Vélez in the face of this painful loss,” the entity posted on its social networks.
