After 19 seasons in NBAthe legendary striker Carmel Antonio On Monday, he announced his retirement from basketball. A ten-time All-Star, named to the league’s 75th Anniversary All-Player Team, and one of the leading scorers in the history of the game, the Brooklyn-born player capped off his successful career with no championship rings but a huge legacy.
After being the great figure of college basketball in the United States – he was NCAA champion in his only year at Syracuse University – Anthony was selected third in the Draft 2003 by the Denver Nuggets, where he remained eight seasons (2003-2011). Then he had six in the New York Knicks (2011-2017) and ended his career in gypsy mode: he went through the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-2018), Houston Rockets (2018-2019), Portland Trail Blazers (2019-2021 ) and Los Angeles Lakers (2021-2022). Thus it was that he became the ninth leading scorer in NBA history.
Outside of the basketball mecca he also made his mark as he became the first American player with four Olympic caps. Thus he became the first medalist four times in a row and the first man to win three gold medals. His Olympic story began at the age of 20 in Athens 2004, where he was one of the victims of the Dream Team that succumbed to the golden generation of Manu Ginóbili and his company. He also achieved a bronze medal at the 2006 World Championships in Japan.
