Fernando Gago’s notes on Racing’s victory: from Reniero’s “necessary” goal to penalties for Vecchio and Miranda

Nicholas Reniero He is one of the footballers most resisted by the fans of racing because he was never able to show how much was expected of him when he was being paid Saint Lawrence approximately $4 million for 80% of the pass. Beyond the fact that he was far away on the podium of those who are more in the spotlight (cardona, Galvano AND insua at the head of the list), the striker struggled every time he made or got into the headlines.

For Gago, he started as a third option, behind Romero and the Peruvian Guerrero. But little by little he was gaining space. He came on well in the tough 3-1 defeat against Boca: he scored the only goal and showed rebellion. And due to Romero’s injury, he started in Quito last night and the 28-year-old striker didn’t miss the opportunity: he put him on shortly after the start of the match and he was essential for the necessary victory in Ecuador, which offers air. Reniero’s numbers in Racing, all the same, are discrete: 7 goals in 46 games.

“I don’t know what to say when they ask me about my performance in one tournament and another. Racing is a club where sometimes you have all your senses focused on the Libertadores and you unknowingly loosen up a bit in the local league and pay dearly”Reniero explained. And he added: “We must continue on this path, which is the one that is bearing fruit. Continue to work to support it”.

Fernando Gago also spoke. “We knew we had to play a game with long runs. The rival, with the disadvantage, played more direct and we were more stopped,” said Avellaneda’s cast coach. And he concluded: “We wanted to generate a lot of passes so that they didn’t catch us in quick transitions and we didn’t have to allow them to finish from outside the area.”

The punishments for Vecchio and Miranda

Emiliano Vecchio AND Leonel Miranda They would have been reinforcements for the second half of the year, given that both are recovering from serious injuries: the former Rosario Central, due to the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee which he suffered at the end of 2022; and the former Defense and Justice, of the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament associated with a tear of the inner meniscus of the left knee. But something happened this week: Gago rejected them.

Apparently, the footballers did not accompany the team to the match against Platense in Vicente López and this fell very badly. For this reason, the DT decided not to be part of the delegation working at the AFA headquarters in Ezeiza. Both Vecchio (in his environment they were surprised) and Miranda practiced at different times and in Avellaneda. We will have to see what happens in the next few days. Will Gago reinstate them or will they remain “suspended” until mid-year?
