German coach Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool manager, has renewed his contract with the English team until 2026two years more than signed.
The renewal announcement follows a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the semi-final first leg, leaving Liverpool one step away from their third Champions League final since Klopp took over as English manager in 2015.
On the Anfield team, Klopp has won a Premier League, the first in the last 30 years of the club’s history, a League Cup, a European Super Cup, a Club World Cup and the sixth European Cup for Liverpool. Furthermore, this season, he is on his way to achieving nothing in the history of English football, poker title.
Liverpool already have the League Cup, won against Chelsea, they are in the FA Cup finals, also against the ‘Blues’, one step away from the Champions League finals, which held on May 28 in Parisand a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League with five games left.
Individually, Klopp won The Best award in 2019 and 2020, awarded by FIFA, for best coach.
The German, who previously managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, arrived in Liverpool in 2015, guiding the team to the Europa League final in his first season, where he lost against Unai Emery’s Sevilla.
After returning Liverpool to the Champions League in his first full campaign at Anfield, Klopp reached the runner-up position in the 2018/2019 season and the Premier the following year, with failure to cover it behind closed doors since in covid.
“I’m going to stay another two years, and not just me but my entire team of coaches … which is really more important,” Klopp said sympathetically introducing him, in a video broadcast on social networks.
“There are so many words I can use to describe how I feel … Excited, humbled, blessed, privileged and excited would be a great way to start,” Klopp said in the official renewal statement.
Along with Klopp, his assistants Pep Lijnders and Pete Krawietz have also renewed their contracts.
“The most important contract I have signed in my life was signed with Ulla,” Klopp said in an interview on Liverpool’s official website. The German referred to his marriage nearly 20 years ago to writer Ulla Sandrock, who is the mother of his two children.
“We sat at the kitchen table and Ulla said to me: ‘I don’t see us leaving in 2024.’ And I said: ‘What?’. That’s how it all started,” Klopp said, remembering how he decided to start talks with Liverpool to confirm the extension of his contract.
Before that, he also had to talk to his right hand on the other lime line, Pepijn Lijnders, which gave him the same feeling, his desire to continue with the Reds.
“Our connection was more than just football, and when he told me he agreed, it was that I should start talking to the club,” Klopp added. Liverpool and football lovers, fun.
