“I keep the gold ones and give away the silver ones”. Thus, emphatically, the Portuguese Jose Mourinho represented the frustration that Roma’s penalty shoot-out defeat against Sevilla of Spain meant in the Europa League final played in Budapest and which the Argentinian described as Gonzalo Montieljust like at the time when he gave the Argentine national team the third star in Qatar 2022.

Mourinho, capable of winning the Champions League with Porto and Manchester United, received the second place medal, he immediately took it away, and then went to the stands where he gave it to a young Roma fan.

The former Real Madrid DT suffered his first fall in a European final, not counting the Super Cups, between the Champions League and Europa League, after five victories.

In turn, Mourinho made fun of the performance of the referee squad: “Has he been in an accident? He’s been in so many…”he declared in front of the official press of the competition.

“Sevilla are a great team, they have a great squad, better than ours, much more experience, which we don’t have”he trusted.

“We had an excellent first half but Sevilla reacted in the second half and then everything was more balanced. In the final we had more chances to win. But it came down to penalties, which must be stopped and scored”Mourinho stressed.
