Patrice Bergeron scored a hat trick on Thursday night and recorded his 400th goal in a convincing 5-0 win by the Boston Bruins against the Buffalo Sabers.
The Bruins crushed the Sabers to score two goals in the second period and three in the third.
Patrice Bergeron scored both goals in the second, including his 23rd and 24th of the season.
The Bruins captain scored his team’s 5th goal, his 25th of the season, the 400th goal of his career, with 17:47 of the third. A victory celebrated by all his teammates.
He also collected assists in the game.
He is the fourth player in Bruins history to reach this milestone, after Johnny Bucyk, Phil Esposito and Rick Middleton.
Linus Ullmark stopped all 37 shots his former team faced for his first shutout of the season.
It was the Bruins ’51st win, fourth in a row. They are within a point of the Tampa Bay Lightning in third place in the Atlantic Division.
Other goals were recorded by David Pastrnak (40th) and Taylor Hall (20th).
The Buffalo Sabers suffered their 39th loss.
The Bleached Senators
The Ottawa Senators ’last home game of the season ended in a 4-0 loss to the Florida Panthers. After four consecutive wins.
Carter Verhaeghe had two goals, his 23rd and 24th, while Sam Reinhart (33rd) and Sam Bennett (28th) also scored. Spencer Knight collected the second shutout of his career, making 27 saves.
Filip Gustavsson blocked 26 shots.
Assured of the best record in the East, the Panthers gave a break to Jonathan Huberdeau, Aleksander Barkov, Claude Giroux, MacKenzie Weegar and Gustav Forsling, in particular.
Ottawa will end the season on Friday in Philadelphia, while the Panthers will face the Canadiens in Montreal.
