Surprising turning point for the future of Carlo Ancelottoi: The Italian coach with a brilliant history has renewed with Real Madrid until 2026 and left the Brazilian team, where his imminent arrival had been speculated for months. The Juventus club dropped the bomb in a short statement on Friday, in the midst of the holiday period: “Real Madrid CF and Carlo Ancelotti have agreed to extend our manager’s contract until 30 June 2026.”

This is news that directly clashes with the announcement made last July by the leaders of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), according to which they expected the Italian to take over as manager starting from June 2024. Carlo Ancelotti was expected at the Copa América 2024, organized in the United States (20 June – 14 July).

Brazil had nominated Fernando Diniz interim, who failed to revive the results of a moribund “Seleçao” and who between October and November accumulated three consecutive defeats, one of which at home against the great rival Argentina, in a tense atmosphere. All this amid threats from FIFA and Conmebol of disaffiliation in the event that the situation of the CBF, which currently intervened following the resignation of the president, does not normalize Ednaldo Rodrigues.

When contacted by AFP on Friday, CBF declined to comment. For his part, Ancelotti has never publicly confirmed his future in Brazil, becoming elusive in this regard. “I’m still here. There are a lot of rumors but I think everything will be clarified soon. Obviously, as I’ve said on numerous occasions, I’m very happy at Real Madrid. I’m a bit selfish, obviously,” he said in a press conference on the 21st October.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has visibly found arguments to convince him to prioritize his continuity in Europe’s most successful club. And the results were mostly good in the first half of the season: Championship leader and qualification for the Champions League round of 16 with complete victories in the group stage.

This despite everything seeming to indicate a transition season after the departure of Karim Benzema headed to Saudi Arabia and with a plague of injuries. But Real Madrid recovered from the emergency faster than expected thanks to a new star. Ancelotti handed the young man the keys to the team Jude Bellingham20 years old, signed by Borussia Dortmund, and since his arrival he has accumulated goals (17) and assists (5).

Ancelotti will be able to continue the vintage that began with the club, which he joined in 2021 after a first step between 2013 and 2015: two Champions Leagues, two Club World Cups, one championship and two Copas del Rey among other titles.

The nicknamed Gentleman He won numerous titles in the most prestigious European clubs in which he played (Milan, Chelsea, Bayern Munich…), winning four Champions Leagues and the title of national champion in the five major leagues. It is true that he has had less success in other banks such as Juventus, Napoli or Paris SG.

The turning point in the Ancelotti case could generate new enmities in Brazil. President Lula wasn’t too enthusiastic during the vocals: “He has never been Italy’s coach. Why doesn’t he solve Italy’s problems, which didn’t even qualify for the last World Cup?”. Before coloring: “If there’s one thing that could help him in Brazil, it’s his ability to calm things down.”
