Big names in football go to Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo’s wake at the CBF museum, in Rio de Janeiro, to say their last goodbye
The friends and family of the former football player and former coach Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo paid their last respects during the wake. The farewell took place at the museum at the headquarters of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, on the morning of this Sunday, 7th, and was open to the public.

During the wake, Paulo Zagallo spoke about saying goodbye to his father. “For me it was a pleasure to have been my father’s son for everything he represented for Brazilian and world football. It’s a source of pride for me, as I’m also involved in football, and he will remain a legend for all the Brazilian people for everything he did. I just have to thank the Brazilian people for their kindness in saying goodbye to him.”, he said, according to the Globo Esporte website, and also spoke about the recent times in his father’s life. “He was lucid. It was God’s will for him to rest, not suffer health problems.”, he declared.
The former player’s other son, Mario, also spoke about the farewell: “I’m feeling grateful for people’s affection. Everyone worked hard to make this tribute happen.”.

Zagallo’s death
Former football player and former coach Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo passed away at the age of 92 on Friday, 5th, due to multiple organ failure. He was admitted to a hospital in Rio de Janeiro.
He left four children: Maria Emilia de Castro Zagallo, Maria Cristina de Castro Zagallo, Márcio César Zagallo and Paulo Jorge de Castro Zagallo. He was already a widower, as his wife, Alcina de Castro, passed away in 2012, at the age of 80.
