The weekend left important news for the clubs of La Plata. Estudiantes generated a sensational transfer and Gimnasia is close to adding two more reinforcements for the 2024 season, in which they will start with more relief given that they will not be engaged in the average.
El Pincha sold Benjamín Rollheiser to Benfica in Portugal for 9 million euros. This figure will cover 90% of the 23-year-old striker’s transfer and Estudiantes will retain 10%. Of course, in terms of raising the money, “León” will receive half of it, since he owns 50% of the former River’s token, and the player has the remaining 50%.
Rollheiser will sign a contract with Benfica until June 2029 and it remains to be decided whether he will join now or in June. Estudiantes will try to achieve this in the middle of the year in order to be able to play in the League Cup, the Argentine Super Cup final against River and the first phase of the Copa Libertadores.
At the same time, maintaining 10% can be crucial for Estudiantes to add more money in the future. Benfica stands out as a high-selling club in Europe.
It has already happened, for example, with Enzo Fernández. River had also sold the central midfielder to Benfica for 18 million euros while retaining 25% of the rights. Then Chelsea paid 121 million for the world champion and the Millionaire received another 34.
Furthermore, the Portuguese club was characterized by other large sales such as those of Joao Félix, who left 127 million euros with his transfer to Atlético Madrid, or that of the Uruguayan Darwin Núñez to Liverpool, for 80 million.
Rollheiser had an outstanding performance at Estudiantes, where he played 83 matches, scored 13 goals, provided 8 assists and won one title (the Argentine Cup).
The striker arrived at Pincha in mid-2022 after being sacked by River, with whom he had started in conflict as he had not signed the contract renewal and had trained for six months separated from the team by decision of the management and Núñez club and by Marcelo Gallardo.
