Jürgen Klopp has promised to fulfill the last wishes of Sven-Göran Eriksson, who announced he has “one year to live”

“It was truly shocking news. And it was the first time I felt his admiration and his love for Liverpool and the fact that he had been a fan all his life. The only thing I can do is say: ‘Sven, you are wholeheartedly invited to come here, you can have my office, you can conduct a training session if you want. No problem. Open arms. Come here and let’s spend some nice hours together’Klopp proposed during an interview broadcast on Sky News.

The German coach reflects “a little more difficult” that Eriksson could be on the Liverpool bench during an official match. “But having him here and showing him everything that this club has developed over the years, I think it’s something we can do.”the German pilot exclaimed enthusiastically.

In recent days a group of Liverpool fans has collected signatures for Eriksson as coach of the team in the charity match that will be played at Anfield on March 23rd by the club’s legends against the Dutch veterans of Ajax (the coaches will be Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish ). Klopp argued that he could do nothing about it because he was not responsible for organizing the event.

Last week, Eriksson, 75, said he was suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer. “Best case scenario, I have a year left. In the worst case, a little less. I will resist as long as I can. “Instead of sitting at home complaining about bad luck, I prefer to have a positive outlook and not give in to adversity,” the former England, Mexico, Ivory Coast and Ivory Coast manager said in an interview with public radio Swedish Philippines

Eriksson put an end to his very long professional career in 2023 due to health problems. His last assignment was at Karlstad, in his home country, as sporting director.. Last February he announced that he would no longer appear in public.

Born on 5 February 1948 in Sunne, western Sweden, Eriksson has excelled as a coach after a modest career as a defender. In 1977 he became coach of Degerfors IF, with which he achieved a series of successes and began to attract the attention of more important clubs.

He then directed the IFK Gothenburg before finding international recognition at the helm of Portuguese team Benfica in 1982. This opened numerous doors for him: he coached Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Lazio in Italy, and Manchester City and Leicester in England, among other teams.

He was also the first foreigner to coach the English national team, with whom he reached the quarter-finals in South Korea-Japan in 2002 and at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In the first, his team beat Argentina 1-0 at second appointment. group F. That defeat proved decisive for the elimination of the team led by Marcelo Bielsa.
