Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev seek the final of an Australian Open that no longer has Novak Djokovic

After Jannik Sinner’s historic victory over Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev play the second semi-final of the Australian Open. It is the first meeting between the two in a major competition, despite having met 18 times. The game is broadcast live on ESPN 2 and Star+.

The Russian has a favorable head-to-head rating of 11-7 and has proved infallible against the German lately, having won five of the six matches played in 2023.

Both tennis players will need an excellent serve and will risk more than necessary to avoid putting a strain on a body damaged by the two five-set matches played in the previous rounds.

The Muscovite won the final set against the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori and the Polish Hubert Hurkacz (9), while the German did the same against the Slovakian Lukas Klein and the British Cameron Norrie (19). Of course Sascha just won in four sets and with great authority against Carlos Alcaraz (2), who was one of the favourites.

Medvedev could book his ticket to what would be his third Australian Open final and Zverev could become the third German, behind compatriots Boris Becker and Rainer Schuettler, to reach the decider on the banks of the Yarra River.
