After 12 years, the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) will leave its relationship with the Nike company to ally itself with Le Coq Sportif, its new exclusive official sportswear sponsor. In this way, all national teams (Pumas, Los Pumas 7’s, Las Yaguaretés and Los Pumitas) will start wearing the French brand.
“With the arrival of the Le Coq Sportif brand at UAR as a new sponsor, not only are we associating ourselves with an international company, involved in rugby since its origins in 1882, but we once again have this great brand in our home to provide technological and high quality products to all our teams”expressed Gabriele Travaglinipresident of the Argentine Rugby Union in reference to this alliance.
The agreement between the two parties will last up to and including the 2027 World Cup. The official first will be made by Los Pumas, during the international window in July, when they will face France in two test matches on the 6th and 13th of the same month.
The debut of the new skin for Los Pumas 7, also part of the world rugby elite, will take place in 2024 Olympicsstarting at the end of July.
Le Coq Sportif thus becomes the fourth sportswear brand to dress all the national rugby teams. Previously, the blue and white was linked for several years to the German company Adidas (1987-2011), Topper (2000-2003) and Nike (from 2012 onwards).
A world champion who knew how to showcase Le Coq Sportif
Diego Maradona, one of the greatest idols in the history of world football, won his first and only World Cup at the Azteca stadium after defeating Germany 3-2 wearing the logo of the French brand Le Coq Sportif.
