The heat wave that is hitting Argentina these days is also affecting football. Thus, to protect the health of the players – including that of the referees and fans – the Professional Football League (LPF) announced this Friday the rescheduling of several matches of the third round of the League Cup to move as far away as possible. possible in the hours when the Sun punishes most harshly.
This is a continuation of the decision taken on January 30, when the League authorities announced that they were analyzing the possibility of making a series of changes to the “summer matchdays”. The first delayed match was the one between Defensa y Justicia and Platense, on date 2, which started 45 minutes later than the scheduled time (5.45pm).
Knowing that high temperatures will persist next week, the matches of the third date of the South Finance Cup scheduled for this Monday, February 5, will last 30 to 60 minutes.
In the case of Zone A, the changes affected Banfield-Instituto de Córdoba, which was scheduled for Monday at 9.30pm and the time moved to 10.00pm. In Zone B, however, three matches were affected: San Lorenzo -Unione (18.00); Godoy Cruz-Lanús (5.30pm) and Tigre-Boca (7.45pm).
The matches scheduled at night, although not particularly affected by the heat wave, were affected by the shift of the matches that will have to be played in the afternoon round. The idea is to avoid, as far as possible, that the television broadcasts do not overlap.
The program of one of the matches on date 4 has also been changed, it is Huracán-Independiente, which went from 8pm to 9.15pm. And it has been announced that the duel between Rosario Central and Independiente Rivadavia will be played on Thursday 8th at 7.30pm at the Estadio Único de San Nicolás.
What does the regulation say?
As the heat extends into the late afternoon, it is expected that most afternoon games on upcoming dates will have to stick to their starting times.
