The father of the Brazilian striker Endrick suffered an act of racism after the match in which Brazil beaten Venezuela with two goals against one in Sub 23 Olympic Pre-Olympic which develops its final phase at the Brígido Iriarte National Stadium in Caracas.
The event was recorded in a video that the player himself uploaded as a story on his Instagram account in which one observes how a young fan wearing a Vinotinto shirt imitates a monkey directing his gaze towards the stands where the player’s family was .
In the same publication Endrick apologized to his father for the unpleasant episode: “I’m sorry for that moment, dad. I’m sorry godfather for that moment.”
After the accident, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) expressed its refusal with a statement: “The CBF repudiates the acts of racism committed against the family members of the player Endrick which occurred on Thursday evening at the Brígido Iriarte Stadium, in Caracas, during and after the national team match. “The pre-Olympic team of Brazil beat Venezuela 2-1. As soon as he was informed of the episode, the head of the Brazilian team’s delegation in Venezuela, Daniel Vasconcelos, representing the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, expressed his solidarity with the athlete and his family.
The CBF was the first national football entity in the world to adopt the possibility of sanction sportingly to a club in case of racism. The innovation was included in the RGC 2023. Since 2022 the CBF has carried out a series of campaigns to combat racism in football. And it has a working group that permanently discusses the issue.
The “Brazilian jewel” will play for Real Madrid from June and will have to adapt to the context of the Spanish league where several of his compatriots (Vinícius, Rodrygo and at a certain point Dani Alves) have suffered racism from the fans.
However, he has already been asked about this in some interviews, clarifying his position: “When I arrive at Real Madrid and receive racist insults in some Spanish stadium, I will look at them and laugh, it’s the best thing I can do: ignore them”, replied the young man .
Brazil is preparing for the decisive match on Sunday, when it will face Argentina, a match that will decide the future of both teams as they aspire to secure one of the two tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
