NBA stars won’t be the only thing drawing attention at All Star. This weekend the championship will use an innovative and revolutionary LED glass field that transforms into a giant screen. In it you can see statistics, advertisements, graphics, effects and more, which could transform the experience of basketball fans.

The return of the East against the West, the highly anticipated ‘battle of the sexes’ in the three-point race Stephen Curry AND Sabrina Ionescuin addition to the star’s participation record Lebron James With 20, they are the main sporting attractions of the All-Star Game at the ‘Lucas Oil’ stadium in Indianapolis, with a capacity of 35,000 spectators.
And there will be another right under the feet of the protagonists: precisely in the surprising and futuristic LED glass field which will become a sort of giant screen of approximately 756 square metres.
Christof Babinsky, CEO of the German company ASB GlassFloor, responsible for the development of this innovative court, did not mince his words and declared: “People will be able to see a show”.
“With the All Star competitions we will have the opportunity to insert animations and make the most of the potential of the track”he defended himself.
Babinsky explained that the company is a family-owned business, founded in 1965, known primarily as a supplier of squash courts, and that his father began work with the idea of making them out of glass.
In 2015 they started to consider including LED and video throughout the pitch and in 2023 they experienced one of their greatest moments when their spectacular pitch was used in Madrid during the U19 Women’s World Cup.
The images left many speechless with a field that, for example, completely changed its appearance with the colors of the USA and Spain in the period leading up to the final or which was completely changed even during the awards ceremony.
Babinsky explained, however, that putting his path into practice involves a long process of argumentation to convince the parties involved, starting with the players.
“Was it difficult from when we had the idea to where we are now? Yes. Did people think we were completely crazy? Yes. Do people have all these prejudices that glass is shiny, clear and breaks? Yes, the “It took a long time to convince people that it was a good idea.”he detailed.
“We believe this track will be a success on a global scale primarily due to its safety properties that go beyond commercial opportunities”complete.
In this sense, he underlined that this glass field reduces the usual skin burns when a player ends up falling on a parquet surface.
As for the deal with the NBA for this All Star, the company received the order about three months ago, installed the court last weekend and has been testing all these days to make sure the software works without problems.
“We have to control it (…) so that a basketball game does not become a video game”hill.
