The Argentine basketball team opened its path to the 2025 AmeriCup with a solid victory against Chile, in Mar del Plata. Beyond the fact that Nicolás Brussino was the scorer with 19 points, the flashes and comments on social media went to Facundo Campazzo, who after having established himself with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey in Spain, showed all his magic with a repertoire full of plays that aroused euphoria among the Albiceleste fans.

The victory of the Albiceleste, directed by Hernán Muelo (in the scheduled absence of coach Pablo Prigioni), was 90 to 78 at the Islas Malvinas Sports Center in the city of Mar del Plata. In addition to Brussino, Gabriel Deck (17 points and 10 rebounds), Campazzo himself (15 points and 8 assists), Lucio Redivo (12 points) and Marcos D’Elia (11) stood out.

Campazzo immediately became fashionable for what he did on the parquet. A couple of those eight assists were truly incredible. In one of these she even “tricked” the cameraman who was following the show with a fake.

But the most notable included a steal, a pipe and the definition with a triple. It was in the last minute of the second quarter, when Córdoba’s playmaker recovered a ball in the defensive sector, started the counterattack which began by passing the ball between the legs of the Chilean Darrol Jones and, having reached the offensive sector, opened the ball for Redivo on the left. The UEB Cividale player attempted a penetration but, seeing the ring covered, he went back to playing with Campazzo, who after a pure reflex control, hit a bomb from afar.

On Friday the delegation will leave for Chile to close the first qualifying window. The match against the local team will be played next Sunday, February 25, starting at 9.20pm, at the Valdivia Municipal Coliseum. Argentina is also part of Group A, with Colombia AND Venezuela.

The second window is scheduled for Friday 22 and Monday 25 November, with the national team hosting Venezuela and Colombia. In February 2025 they will conclude their presence in the territory as visitors, facing Venezuela on Thursday 20th and Colombia on Sunday 23rd.

The three best teams from Groups A, B and D along with the two best from Group C and the host country will earn a spot in the 2025 AmeriCup, a competition to be held August 23-31 in Managua, Nicaragua.
