Once again violence has shaken the world of football. The unfortunate event occurred after the 1-1 draw between Sports Recife AND Force for the Northwest Cup at the Pernambuco Arena, and had an Argentine footballer as its main victim. The former Colón de Santa Fe, who plays in the visiting team also led by the Argentine Juan Pablo Vojvoda, had to be sold 13 stitches in his face and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.
It all happened when, after the match, Sport Recife fans attacked explosive devices AND stones to the bus carrying the visiting delegation.

Gonzalo Escobar was the most affected footballer. The defender, 26, received 13 stitches between his mouth and left eyebrow, in addition to the blow to the head.
In addition to him, goalkeeper Joao Ricardo, defenders Titi and Dudu and midfielder Lucas Sasha, as well as another Argentine defender Emanuel Brítez, were injured.
After receiving medical assistance, the former Colón de Santa Fe left back took to his social networks to report what happened: “First I want to let you, my family and friends know that I am fine. Thanks to all the people who cared about me and wrote to me and sent me strength and I pray for the whole team. Now at home, calmer, I’ll tell you about it. Luckily no tragedy occurred. Here with 13 spots on the face, a few more spots on the lion. I’ll be back fighting soon.”.
And I add: “The rest will deal with justice or whoever is in charge of it. This doesn’t work in football, we are human beings, workers like everyone else. We have family, even the children are waiting for us at home”.
Given this situation, Marcelo Paz, CEO of Fortaleza, was forceful: “Fortaleza must not return to the field until their injured players have recovered and the culprits have been punished. I suffer emotionally, physically and even technically. My goalkeeper has seven stitches in his head, Escobar, which is the only one I have, because Bruno Pacheco is injured, he has 13 stitches in his face and suffered a head injury. Who will pay for this? Our position is not to play until they have recovered, I hope they recover soon.” And then he added: “Why is this allowed in football? What kind of gratuitous behavior is it that allows football professionals to be insulted, ridiculed and humiliated without anything happening? If a bus passes by in any city in the country and someone throws a bomb inside the bus, he will be immediately arrested and punished. Why is this allowed in football?
Sport Recife’s statement after the violent episode
“The Sport Club do Recife firmly repudiates the acts of violence committed against the bus of the Fortaleza Esporte Clube delegation as it left the Pernambuco Arena after Wednesday’s match. The absurd acts of violence do not coincide with the real conduct and behavior of the Rossoneri fans, nor with the values of the Club, which will always abhor this type of attitude. President Yuri Romão, manager André Figueiredo, technical coordinator Ricardo Drubscky and the Club’s medical team are already in the delegation of the Ceará team, providing support and all the necessary support. “Sport has also made itself available to help in ascertaining the facts and in the investigations, trying to identify the people involved in this criminal act”, reads the message from the team from the Brazilian North.
