River Plate AND Boca Juniorsthe two giants of Argentine football will face each other this Sunday at the Monumental Stadium in a new edition of Super classicvalid for the seventh of Professional League Cup.
The match is played from five in the afternoon at the “Millonarios” stadium in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires, will be refereed by Yael Falcón Pérez and broadcast on television by ESPN Premium and TNT Sports.
The new Superclásico takes them at different times, with River more consolidated and better functioning, and Boca looking for an identity under the guidance of Diego Martínez, who this year took the reins of the team replacing Jorge Almirón, who left in November 2023.
On the River side, they are second in Zone A with 12 points, behind Independiente (13) and unbeaten, with three wins and three draws, two of them consecutive in the last presentations against Atlético Tucumán (0-0) and Banfield (1 -1).
The team led by Martín Demichelis, last year’s champion, is a great candidate to qualify for the quarter-finals of the League Cup among the top four and also to win the title in a tournament that will crown Rosario Central in 2023.
Boca is the opposite because they only have 9 points in Zone B, ahead of Godoy Cruz de Mendoza comfortably in the lead with 16 and is seventh. To make matters worse, Martínez’s cycle just suffered its first “shock” when he fell to “La Fortaleza” against Lanús (2-1).
That defeat, added to the fact that in the five previous matches they had won just two and drawn three, against the weakest opponents in the area, has cast doubt on Martínez’s project, who has failed to leave his mark on the team and will have to the accounts from now on still face the most difficult opponents, starting with River.
