The shocking moment a runner was hit by a motorcyclist in the Guadalajara Marathon

A tragedy almost did not occur in Mexico. While the 38th edition of Guadalajara Half Marathonheld last Sunday, there was a runner who was just a few meters from the finish line hit by a motorcycle carrying one of the race judgeswho didn’t stop and fled.

The victim was identified by name Israel Oropeza Vazquezoriginally from the state of Jalisco, which when it was just 1000 meters from the end of the route of 21 kilometers in total, a motorcyclist accompanied by a co-pilot collided with the athlete from behind and decided not to brake.

The marathon runner was running alone at the time of the impact, therefore after the accident he remained lying on the ground until the moment of impact receive help from paramedics on scene.

After receiving assistance, fortunately, Israel managed to get up on its own a few minutes after suffering the accident and decided to cross the finish line of the marathon now in its final stretch.

Once the race is over, He was taken to hospital, where serious injuries were ruled out.. Only minor bruises were found on him which do not cast doubt on his integrity.

The accident was recorded by one of the spectators who were on the side of the road bordering the path. As the video quickly went viral, The driver of the motorcycle justified himself by claiming that he was blinded by the sun at the moment of impact.. Therefore, he failed to avoid Israel in time when he managed to detect him.

Some time later it would be discovered that the vehicle he drove was part of the organizing committee and that the co-pilot would have been one of the judges in charge of the competition, even if the identity of both is not known at the moment.

Following the impact of the case, the victim thanked the support she received on her social networks and regretted not being able to finish the race with the good pace she had.

“I didn’t fall, a motorcyclist threw me with a large displacement vehicle. Even though I feel sad, because I was having a good race, I am aware that soon I will get out of this and we will have a good race again,” Israel said.
