Residents of Juazeiro, in Bahia, demand that the city council remove the statue in honor of Spanish player Daniel Alves, convicted
A statue made in honor of the football player Daniel Alves in Juazeiro, Bahia, his hometown, it dawned again damaged. On the morning of this Wednesday, the 28th, the image, located in Praça do Vaporzinho, was found covered in white paint.
The act, carried out for the third time in less than a year, occurred after the athlete’s conviction on rape charges in Barcelona, Spain. Since the penalty was announced, local residents have been asking for the statue to be removed from the municipality.
According to information from the portal Black in whitethe city hall of Juazeiro, commanded by Suzana Alexandre de Carvalho Ramos (PSDB), informed that the issue will still be discussed. The police have not yet commented on the investigation of the case, as the location does not have security cameras to identify the suspects.
The statue in honor of Daniel Alves was inaugurated in 2020, by the former mayor Paulo Bomfim (PT), which has already declared itself against the removal of the image. The first rejection against the athlete’s figure took place on March 8, 2023, on International Women’s Day. At the time, he was still considered a suspect in the crime committed in Spain.
On September 7 of the same year, the image was damaged again, covered with a black bag and adhesive tape. The bronze statue that represents Daniel Alves in life size, with the Brazilian team uniform and the ball at his foot, cost around R$150,000.
It is worth remembering that the football player received the sentence for the trial on charges of sexual abuse last Thursday, the 22nd. The judge in the case revealed that he was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison.

Tite breaks his silence on Daniel Alves’ conviction
The Coach Tite spoke publicly for the first time about the case involving football player Daniel Alves, convicted in Barcelona, Spain, of rape. Last Sunday, the 25th, in a press conference after Flamengo’s victory over Fluminense, he explained his opinion on the athlete’s arrest.
“I cannot make a judgment without having all the facts and all the true information, I can speak conceptually. Conceptually, every error must be punished. Now, I’m not judgmental and I don’t have all the facts“, stated the former coach of the Brazilian team.
Afterwards, Tite, who had his last work with Daniel Alves during the World Cup in Qatar, held in 2022, reinforced that the player’s life extends beyond the fields and, therefore, he could not speak deeply about something that was not it saw.
“There is a stage of a professional who worked with me, now there are other professional and personal stages that he also carries out and that I also do not know and cannot judge“, he declared.
Throughout the interview, Tite recalled that he positioned himself in the same way during a similar episode involving Neymar Jr.which took place in 2019. At the time, the star had been accused of rape and assault – the player’s innocence was proven in court and the case was closed.
“When I went to a press conference where there was a problem with Neymar, there were 24 questions and I had to answer 18 about it, and I said the same thing. I don’t have in-depth knowledge about this, but anyone who makes a mistake must be punished. That’s how I learned and how I was educated by my father“, concluded the technician.
