Formula 2: Colapinto achieved a splendid sixth place after starting from the rear in the first race of the year

With considerable advance in 32 working laps, Argentinian Franco Colapinto finished sixth in Formula 2 testing which took place this Saturday at the Bahrain International Raceway, in Sakhir, added his first points of the year and thus completed with a smile his first weekend of racing in the season of the category which serves as the opening act for the Formula 1.

The driver born 20 years ago in Pilar, who had ranked 18th in the sprint race on Friday following a 10-second penalty for incorrectly positioning his vehicle at the start, He started from 15th place on Saturdaybut thanks to a good tire strategy and courageous driving he managed to advance until he entered the points zone: thanks to sixth place, collected the first eight units of the year.

The race was won by Zane Maloney of Barbados, of the Rodin Motorsport team, who had already won the sprint on Friday and this Saturday preceded the Spaniard Josep María Martí (Campos Racing) by 4,621 and the Estonian Paul Aron (Hitech Pulse-Eight) by 11,781. Closing out the top five are the British Zak O’Sullivan (Art Grand Prix) and the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta Racing).

After the first weekend of the season, Maloney leads the drivers’ standings with 36 points, followed by Martí (24) and Aron (19). Colapinto, fourth last year in Formula 3, is seventh with his eight units. His teammate, Norwegian Dennis Haugerhe finished Saturday’s race in eighth place and is ninth in the tournament with six points.

The next Formula 2 race will be held next weekend on the Jeddah street circuit (Saudi Arabia), the fastest urban route in the world. The sprint race will take place on Friday at 12.10pm, while the main event will take place on Saturday at 10.25am.
