The Washington Capitals rallied with three third-period goals to beat the Florida Panthers 4-2 on Tuesday in Game 1 of the NHL first-round series.

TJ Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov twice lit the red light in 2 minutes and 23 seconds and the Capitals held their lead with ten minutes left in the duel.

The Presidents ’Trophy champions were undefeated during this season’s regulation after taking the lead after two rounds until tonight. The Panthers are 22-0-0 at home in these types of scenarios and 39-0-1 overall.

Vitek Vanecek made 30 saves in the win. Ilya Samsonov, who shared the net with Vanecek throughout the campaign, served as backup.

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 34 shots for the Panthers. The second matchup is Thursday in Florida.
