After a few months of stoppage following the coronation of Max Verstappen, the new Formula 1 season followed the same line as the last days of 2023: the three-time champion won the first race in Bahrain and scored a double with his teammate team of the Sergio Pérez team, runners-up in the previous championship. Now the riders will try to confirm the good start Saudi Arabia, more precisely in the Jeddah circuit between Thursday 7 March and Saturday 9 March.
Verstappen’s victory in Bahrain marked his eighth consecutive victory taking into account last season’s finale (he won in Japan, Qatar, Austin, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi) and his 18th in the last 19 races.
The Dutchman took over the classification and started in first position on the grid. The podium was completed by Checo Pérez and Carlos Sainz, who took 3rd and 4th place for Ferrari together with Charles Leclerc, who started second.
“On the first lap something went wrong and from then on things didn’t go well. In the first 20 laps we went backwards, even if we then remained stable. I don’t know what the problem was today. I’m disappointed not to have finished so many points,” said the Ferrari driver after finishing in 4th place.
Meanwhile, the riders who also scored points in the first round of Formula 1 They were George Russell, who took fifth place, followed by Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri. The last places in the top 10 were occupied by the two Aston Martin drivers, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.
“Incredible, it went better than expected, the car was very good on all tires and we had great pace. Nothing could have gone better. It’s always special to have days like these. But it’s a long season,” Verstappen said after the victory in Bahrain.
