The European Union Ambassador to Argentina, Amador Sanchez Ricopresented what will be the third edition of the EU race in Buenos Aires. THE May 5th in the woods of Palermo, in the Federal Capital.
The presentation of the so-called Buenos Aires Run took place at the headquarters managed by the French ambassador, Romain Nadal.
“I am very excited to be able to announce that this new and third edition of the European Union – Buenos Aires Run will take place on May 5th. A race that builds bridges between Argentines and Europeans, open to the entire public, both elite athletes and amateurs, and with solidarity purposes,” said Sánchez Rico.
“The race marks the path towards the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, where an important milestone will be achieved: full gender equality in the number of athletes. With this we try to highlight the commitment to equity in sport around the world,” said Nadal, who is also promoting the Paris 2024 Games.
Around 5,000 runners are expected to take part in the Buenos Aires run in the Palermo Forests, said Adrián Gluck, CEO of I Love Run: “It will have two distances, a competitive 15 and 7 kilometers for experienced runners, and a participatory option of 2 kilometers, trying that all those who want to approach this sport can have their place and enjoy the event.”
Furthermore, as part of the commitment to inclusion, there will be a special presentation of Los Murciélagos, the Argentine men’s football team made up of blind people.
The space around the starting area will become an activity hub for the whole family, with sports gaming stations emulating Olympic sports and a carnival-inspired European food fair to enjoy a picnic. The little ones will be able to have fun with activities such as volleyball, hockey and football, learning about the values that each sport represents and related curiosities.
“We always promote these types of activities that promote the values of the European Union. Our city also tries to offer its spaces for an initiative that represents the importance of sport”, said Gluck in front of some diplomats present at the presentation.
The race represents, among other things, the most important event in the celebration of Europe Day (9 May), as part of Europe Month.
