Daniel Alves’ wife, Joana Sanz, deactivated social media after the Barcelona Court granted provisional release on bail to the former player
This Wednesday, 20th, after the Barcelona Court granted provisional freedom to Daniel Alves under bail of 1 million euros – equivalent to R$5.5 million at the current rate – his wife, Joana Sanz, deactivated social networks. The former Brazilian national team player was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the sexual assault of a young woman in December 2022.
Sanz had already made a similar decision in April last year, when he shared that his mental health was being affected. After this episode, she deleted her profiles twice more, in December 2023 and in February 2024.
“Given the media harassment I am subjected to, I decided to stop using my social media. I don’t know if this is enough for the media to stop waiting for me at airports, at my doorstep […] or approaching my loved ones. I hope this all stops because it is affecting my mental health and social life.”said the model in a publication in April 2023.
Spanish court grants provisional freedom to Daniel Alves
The soccer player Daniel Alves, convicted in February this year of rape in Barcelona, Spain, may receive provisional release, on bail of 1 million euros – approximately R$5.4 million. According to information from the G1, on the morning of this Wednesday, 20th, the Spanish Court accepted the request made by the athlete’s lawyer. The defense awaits the final sentence.
Outside prison, Daniel is prohibited from approaching the victim, including the workplace or any other place she frequents. Furthermore, his Brazilian and Spanish passports are withheld, which means he will not be able to leave the European country.
The former Brazilian national team player will also need to appear weekly at the Provincial Court. The Brazilian received a sentence of four years and six months in prison for the crime of sexual assault. The decision can be appealed.
“The court further assesses that ‘the sentence finally imposed was significantly reduced in relation to the lowest of those requested (9 years by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and 12 by the private Public Prosecutor’s Office), in addition to having been served for 14 months in a preventive manner, with a date to from January 20, 2023, and may be extended, if the circumstances that motivated its issuance persist, up to half of the sentence imposed, a period in which the sentence is unlikely to become final.”says the document to which the website UOL had access.
