Robinho’s arrest
On the night of this Thursday, 21st, the former football player Robinho was arrested in Santos, São Paulo. The arrest took place one day after the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) ordered him to serve a nine-year prison sentence in Brazil for gang rape. The former athlete was convicted by the Italian Court for the crime committed in Milan in 2013.
The Federal Court of Santos accepted the STJ’s letter and issued the arrest warrant. Robinho was taken to the Federal Police headquarters in the city. The former player’s lawyers tried to reverse the decision with a habeas corpus in the Superior Federal Court (STF), so that he could await the appeals of the case in freedom. Minister Luiz Fux, responsible for analyzing the injunction, denied the request.
According to CNN Brasil, Robinho will be sent to undergo a forensic examination at the Legal Medical Institute (IML). Afterwards, he will return to the Federal Police headquarters, in the center of Santos, and will be charged. The custody hearing should take place on the afternoon of this Friday, 22nd. After the hearing, the former player will be taken to the detention center to be arrested.
