A great result, the best since he competed in Formula 2made in the early hours of this Saturday Franco Colapinto in Melbourne. The 20-year-old Argentine started the Sprint on the third round in thirteenth position and thanks to firm and patient work he could finish fifth. “I think it was a good race,” analyzed the MP Sports driver.
Despite a somewhat bumpy start to the race on the Australian circuit and a new traction problem in his starting unit, Colapinto managed to gain a few positions before the race was neutralised. Far from being satisfied, the driver from Buenos Aires accelerated at maximum speed on the restart and continued to climb the rankings.
With two laps to go, a situation raises the alarm bells: the race management reported that they were analyzing an overtaking maneuver on the twelfth lap with yellow flags, by the Mexican Rafael Villagómez.
“It was risky to try at the end because my tires were worn and I had already taken a risk halfway through the race” the Argentine analyzed to the microphones of ESPN at the end of the competition, when there was still no official resolution to the incident and moments later Frenchman Isack Hadjar will celebrate the victory on the podium next to the Czech Romano Stanek and Pilarense’s teammate, the Norwegian Dennis Haugerthat he finished second and third respectively.
In this way Colapinto managed to overturn a situation that had not appeared favorable to him in Melbourne, after the poor performance in qualifying. “Yesterday was a complicated day. I was very angry because I had a good pace,” he complained.
“But today we saved him with a good race. The start was bad, we had clutch problems this weekend. But the rest of the race went well. I chose the first corners well, passed some of them and then moved on,” said Colapinto.
Finally he added: “We have a good pace and we recovered from another difficult ranking.” The insistence on that classification round was due to the fact that he had committed violations of the track limits which had caused him to lose some laps, especially the first, where he had set the best time.

The 20-year-old Argentine was in eighth position in the classification held at dawn on Friday, but when the five minutes were about to expire and there were four remaining, two red flags appeared which prevented the riders from making new fast laps.
This resulted in the Pilar native being relegated to 13th place and having to start from the seventh row in both the Sprint and the main race this Saturday at 9.35pm (Argentine time), which will be broadcast on Star+.
In the first final of the season, held in Bahrain, Colapinto finished sixth. In the second, in Saudi Arabia, he had to abandon due to a slight collision with a wall.
