Aldosivi, the Puerto team, and Alvarado, the Matadero team, constitute a classic with a short but very intense history. Without knowing it, on August 10, 1997, they played the 20th century classic for the last time on the Mar del Plata river field, a stage of rather close proportions and located a few blocks from the meeting point of Alvarado fans.

It lasts just 20 minutes and is suspended at 0-0 when Aldosivi hits the crossbar; Before, during and after there were stones, tear gas, running, injuries and riots that spread to the surrounding streets. It was the last time, until Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Minella.

The match had no goals, but it had controversy. El Tiburón was close to opening the scoring when, towards the end of the first half, Alan Sosa took a free kick which passed close to the goal. In the next, all Alvarado asked for a penalty for a blow by Gonzalo Soto on Guido Vadalá which the referee Nazareno Arasa did not validate.

Although the crowd was exclusively Aldosivi, the Alvarado sports facility on Route 88 roared with shouts of a penalty as fans gathered there to watch the classic on a giant screen. There were flags hanging on the fences at the training pitches and singing, just like on the pitch. Not only were members and fans present, but historic footballers were also present.

In the second half the game was a little more fluid. Luca Franco hit a powerful shot that Jorge Carranza managed to block, to keep the tie. Alvarado goalkeeper Juan Manuel Lungarzo also stood out with a mid-range shot from Alan Sosa which he managed to contain.

As the minutes passed, both took more care of the spaces and the situations became more tepid. Only Agustín Alonso’s shot emerged from his sleep, which hit the post and was the last action that could jeopardize the parity of a match that had been waiting almost three decades to be played again.
