Bad luck follows Saint Lawrence if it involves injuries. Two weeks after the anterior cruciate ligament ruptured in Gastón Hernández’s right knee, Manuel Insaurralde suffered the same injury yesterday, but to his left knee, and will be out of action for at least seven months.

The central midfielder was highly regarded by Ruben Darío Insua. In fact, he was a starter in Ciclón’s victory against Godoy Cruz last Thursday at the Nuevo Gasómetro. El Gallego will have to rebuild the midfield.

This year Insaurralde has played ten games (five starts). Now he will have to undergo surgery and will have to focus on a long recovery. The injury occurred during training on Monday at the club’s Sports City in Bajo Flores. The 25-year-old player felt severe pain and could not continue.

Immediately, concern spread among his teammates and coaching staff. The doctors took him to undergo rigorous tests, which confirmed the extent of the injury which was then made official by San Lorenzo in an official medical report.

Insua will have to replace him in the classic against Boca next Saturday at the Bombonera. In the squad there are variations such as Francisco Perruzzi and also Eric Remedi, who arrived as a reinforcement even if he has played little or nothing so far and has been excluded from several call-ups. Carlos Sánchez is another name that could accompany Elian Irala in the central group.

Insaurralde’s defeat adds to that of Tonga Hernández, who broke his knee in the match against Platense on 9 March. A few days later he underwent surgery and is now in rehabilitation. Only a couple of dates ago Ezequiel Cerutti returned to play, having suffered the same injury last year and who will only now be able to be taken into consideration by the coach again.
