Víctor Legrotaglie, Mendoza football legend and one of the best footballers in history, has died

Vittorio Antonio Legrotaglie, football legend from Mendoza, died this Saturday at the age of 86. He Winner, as everyone knew him, was the most important player in the history of the province of Cuyo. He was a figure at Gimnasia y Esgrima, whose stadium is named after him. On Wednesday 27 March he was admitted to the El Carmen hospital, in Godoy Cruz, for bilateral pneumonia, then reported a decompensation at home.

Legrotaglie spent almost his entire career at Gimnasia de Mendoza. He also wore the shirts of Atlético Argentino, Independiente Rivadavia and Juventud Alianza. Additionally, he had a short stint with Chacarita Juniors in 1959.

According to FIFA, Legrotaglie has the peculiar record of being the Argentine with the most goals from free kicks. He scored 66, one more than Lionel Messi (65) and four above Diego Maradona (62). He also has the same figure as Ronaldinho and just 4 less than Pelé and 6 less than Juninho Pernanbucano, the greatest specialist in history.
