There is a new epidemic that few are talking about in sports in our country. And it directly affects Argentine football. This is one of the most painful injuries: There are already 18 players who have broken their cruciates in the League Cup. “And more and more players will continue to break, this is inevitable,” predicts Boca doctor Jorge Pablo Batista, who wrote a strong post on his Instagram account. Why? “Very tight schedule, playing fields partly in poor condition, tendency to use semicircular caps instead of round caps, psychological stress,” explains the well-known traumatologist.

This weekend alone there were three players who suffered the complicated injury. Lucas Blondel, who was going through his best moment since his arrival at Boca, was injured in the 19th minute of the classic against San Lorenzo at La Bombonera. The club later confirmed that they had suffered.”knee sprain with anterior cruciate ligament rupture“.

The Pirate of Cordoba was also the victim of the fashionable injury in recent days: Belgrano reported it on his networks. “After carrying out the relevant studies, it was confirmed that Ulises Sánchez suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.”

And during the week we also learned that Manuel Insaurralde tore his cruciates before the match against Boca. That would be player number 18.

“It’s not 6pm, it’s 7pm”corrects Batista who assures that in a few hours another bad news will be known: “There is another player who will certainly be given the information soon”.

In these 12 rounds of the League Cup some clubs have experienced surreal situations. For example, on 12 February Ciro Rius replaced Raúl Lozano who had torn his cruciate ligaments. A few minutes later, in the same match, the Platense new arrival suffered the same injury as the man he replaced. AND Banfield had to announce two players with torn ACLs on the same date: Bisanz and Cabrera.

Tired of seeing a situation that repeats itself without any type of prevention from the authorities, The Boca doctor expressed his intervention in the form of a complaint: “I already warned two weeks ago and no one did anything.”

According to Batista, some of the reasons for so many injuries would be the following: “Very tight schedule, playing fields in some cases in very poor condition, tendency to use semicircular instead of round caps, mental stress (everyone has something at hand) pole, relegation, qualification for the final phase), physical tiredness”, describes the prestigious traumatologist.

“Argentinian football is extremely difficult, the work of the physical trainers is excellent. This means that the player does not have a second without receiving pressure from two or even three rivals. Although most are indirect injuries, I must also underline that In European football the player is protected more. One or two fouls, yellow and then red. From all this I can draw only one conclusion: I don’t see a quick way out. More and more players will continue to break, this is inevitable,” Batista wrote in all caps.

There are no prevention programs which can be established because there are many variables to correct and in many cases they affect economic interests. A shame!”, concluded the sports medicine specialist.
